Paedophiles could be given realistic child sexbots as part of their treatment, it has been claimed.

Leading robotics experts say the emergence of 'sexbots' that resemble children is inevitable.

They believe they could form an important part of treatment plans for paedophiles.

ROBOT NEWSREADERS

Ultra-realistic robot newsreaders at a Tokyo museum have shown just how far humanoid robots have come.

Named Kodomoroid and Otonaroid, the creepy-looking robots speak so smoothly they are eerily lifelike.

Japanese robotics expert Hiroshi Ishiguro, an Osaka University professor, said they will be useful for research on how people interact with robots.

'Making androids is about exploring what it means to be human,' he told reporters.

'Examining the question of what is emotion, what is awareness, what is thinking.'

In a demonstration, the remote-controlled machines moved their lips in time to a voice-over, twitched their eyebrows, blinked and swayed their heads from side-to-side.

'We’ve had sex toys for as long as mankind, and womankind, have been around,' said Ron Arkin, Georgia Tech’s Mobile Robot Lab director, speaking on a robot ethics panel at Berkeley.

'Child-like robots could be used for pedophiles the way methadone is used to treat drug addicts,' Arkin said, according to Forbes.

He said researchers should begin testing potential therapies.

'There are no presumptions that this will assuredly yield positive results – I only believe it is worth investigating in a controlled way to possibly provide better protection to society from recidivism in sex offenders,' he said.

'If we can save some children, I think it’s a worthwhile project.'

Ben Way, a robotics expert whop recently wrote a book called 'Jobocalypse: The End of Human Jobs and How Robots will Replace Them,' told MailOnline that child sexbots were inevitable.

'There is no doubt that child sex bots will become available, and the line and distinction between an adult sex bot and a child sex bot is impossible to police.

'Will child sex bots lead to some people acting out their dark and disgusting desires on real children? Yes, but I suspect having child sex bots will significantly reduce the number of people overall who abuse children.

Kodomoroid read the news without stumbling once and recited complex tongue-twisters glibly. The robots, designed with a girlish appearance, can use a variety of voices, such as a deep male voice one minute and a squeaky girly voice the next

'Child sex bots could become the most powerful tool in reducing harm to children.

'As repugnant as it may seem society should support this technology and do proper research into its effects before making a snap decision based on social norms, the most important thing we can do as a society is reduce harm to children whatever way we can do it.'

Way also said the child sexbots could be just the tip of the iceberg.

'We also have to be realistic that it won’t stop at child sex bots, we will have animal sex bots, disabled sex bots.

'People have all kinds of fetishes and dark desires, and robots will be there to cater to them all.'
