Google has unveiled a slew of new hardware including its $799 (£739) Pixel 3 phones, a new $599 (£549) tablet called Pixel Slate and a $149 (£139) smart speaker with a screen called Home Hub.

The firm has pledged to build AI into its entire range at a New York event where Google's Rick Osterloh unveiled the new products, designed to take aim at Apple, Samsung and Amazon.

However, the event was being overshadowed by a firestorm over a privacy glitch that forced it to shut down its struggling social network Google+ yesterday.

The Silicon Valley giant said Monday it found and fixed a bug exposing private data in as many as 500,000 accounts, but drew fire for failing to disclose the incident.

'This year's new devices fit perfectly with the rest of the family,' Osterloh said.

The firm boasts its new Pixel 3 is 'a phone that can answer itself, a camera that won't miss a shot, and a whole new experience while it's charging.

It comes in three colors - just black, clearly white, and not pink with two display sizes -the 5.5inch Pixel 3 and 6.3 inch Pixel 3 XL - both of which feature a 'notch' like Apple's iPhone.

The Pixel 3 XL screen extends all the way to the upper corners, giving an edge-to-edge experience.

Google has signed up Annie Leibowitz to take pictures with the new camera around the US to show it off.

Google pushed the handsets camera, explaining its new 'superzoom' feature, which uses AI to create a zoomed in shot.

It also has a new night mode boasting low light capabilities.

Google showed off its new Pixel Visual Core chip and HDR Plus - Google's version of Apple's HDR+.

It says the new front facing camera is wide angle to capture 'superselfies' with a new wide angle lens.

The Group Selfie Cam - adds a second camera on the front that captures 184% more of the scene than the iPhone XS. users zoom out to fit everyone in the shot without a selfie stick and longer arm.

The call screen feature allows the phone to answer calls for you when telemarketers call.

Users can choose to activate the feature when a call comes in, and Google Assistant transcribes the call live on screen.

The firm first unveiled the Home Hub, a smart speaker with a screen.

It features a 7-inch display mounted on top of a speaker.

However, the firm said it decided to leave out a camera because of privacy fears.

'Two years ago launched Google Home with the goal of simplifying hectic moments of life,' said Diya Jolly, google's VP of product management.

'The number of users of Google Home gone up by 400% in just the last year.'

Google said it had redesigned services like search, YouTube, maps and calendars so that they're easily controlled with the device.

'We spent countless hours on the design,' said Jolly.

'We Incorporated custom fabrics, rounded corners, and you can choose from colors - teal, pink, slate grey and white.'

It also boasts a feature called Ambient EQ - a dedicated sensor and machine learning algorithm so that it can respond to light, changing the display accordingly.

Users will also be able to control their smart home easily, and hub controls 200 million smart home devices from several brands, ranging from Sonos, to Dish Hopper, Vizio TV, Chromecast, and Phillips Hue smart lightbulbs.

The firm then moved onto its new tablet, the $599 Pixel Slate.

Trond Wuellner of Google said it was 'designed to be both thin and light, and has  beautiful lines and rounded edges.

'It comes in midnight blue. Has 293 pixels per inch - that's 6 million pixels.'

Google has also included its AI assistant, which users can use to dictate emails or issue commands.

It also comes with a keyboard case, complete with a touchpad, turning it into a laptop.

Dual front-firing speakers will direct stereo sound towards you, and it boasts 8mp rear and front facing cameras.

Google boasts it gives a 'full desktop experience, not one designed for a phone'

It also has full powered linux applications.

Here's everything being unveiled at  Google's annual hardware event.

Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL

The Pixel 3 XL boasts a 6.7-inch display, almost an inch larger than the Pixel 2 XL, while the smaller Pixel 3 has a 5.3-inch display.

Google has suffered a flurry of leaks in the months leading up to the launch of its latest handset.

Specifications photographed from the Pixel 3 XL packaging confirmed the handset will have a notch at the top of the all-screen design – similar to the iPhone X.

The Pixel 3 XL sports dual, front-facing cameras with one wide-angle sensor to allow users to take 'Super Selfies' that automatically blur the background behind the subject.

Likewise, the next-generation Pixel handset has the same dual-tone case design and circular rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

It has an iPhone X-esque notch and an OLED display that spans 6.2 inches, with a screen resolution of 1,440x2,960 pixels.

It also features wireless charging and two 8 megapixel front-facing camera. It appears that users may be able to switch between f/1.8 and f/2.2 apertures.

Google Pixel Slate tablet

The firm launched its first Chrome-branded tablet at the event on Tuesday.

It features a Chromebook tablet that attaches to a separate keyboard.

The Pixel tablet will feature a touchpad, round keys, a front-facing camera and a camera on the rear, as well as a built-in fingerprint sensor.

Among other features, it'll have 16gb of RAM, an Intel Amber Lake processor, as well as a 3000x2000 display.

Google Home Hub

Google's next voice-activated device is a smart speaker with a screen.

Called the 'Google Home Hub,' which features a 7-inch display mounted on top of a speaker.

The Home Hub will be connected to Google's Assistant, enabling it to display weather, calendar events, recipes and other pertinent information on the screen.

Google's current smart speaker line-up includes the Google Home, budget Home Mini and the Home Max.

A list of specs shows that the device will have a 'full-range speaker for crystal clear sound' and 'far-field voice recognition.'

Many have speculated that Google will release some kind of screen-equipped smart home device this year at it's annual hardware event in October.

Google may attempt to differentiate itself from rivals by launching a smart display with a smaller screen, as it tries to cater toward consumers who would use it for things like weather updates and reminders, instead of things like watching videos.

The firm has previously put its Google Assistant in smart displays from other providers, such as Lenovo.
