Scientists unveil laser that can monitor your breathing and heartbeat through clothes from three feet away

  • ContinUse Biometrics' nanotechnology can monitor senses without touching
  • It can measure respiration, lung activity, temperature, blood pressure, pulse wave velocity, glucose, alcohol level and muscle activity through clothing
  • Particularly useful for people with cardiovascular diseases or diabetes

Innovative new technology from ContinUse Biometrics will allow patients to monitor multiple body functions from home with use of a laser.

The nanotechnology can monitor the user's health and breathing through clothing from up to a meter away.

It can measure respiration, lung activity, temperature, blood pressure, pulse wave velocity, glucose, alcohol level and even muscle activity.

Our sensor consists of a camera with special optics and a laser. They can be connected to any type of consumer device, such as mobile phones or TVs,' said Professor Zeev Zalevsky, the Chief Technology Officer.

'We use unique and patented optical methods to capture nano-vibrations created by the movement of internal organs, chemicals, and molecules in the body of the subject that we are trying to sense.'

The tech is particularly helpful for people with cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.

The device is intended for hospital patients or those with chronic diseases who need close monitoring at home.

'Providing continuous medical care to those who need it is currently expensive and inefficient. We need to make healthcare more affordable and accessible to all,' said CEO Asher Polani.

'Providing that kind of preventive care improves quality of life and can save patient's lives,' Polani continued.

The startup has locations in Israel, Spain and the Silicon Valley.

'Our remote sensor is easy to use - it doesn't interfere with the user's daily routines, nor does the user's environment affect the quality of measurements.

'That's right, no need to remove clothes, change position, turn on the light, or do anything else!' the website reads.
