There are plenty of people who hate their job with the intensity of a thousand suns, but the odds that you’re sitting next to one of them are surprisingly slim.According to a survey by Employment Background Investigations, there’s a far better chance your cubicle neighbor is quite pleased with his or her work. Of 2,000 people polled, 53.3 percent said they “love” their job. A mere 9.8 percent copped to loathing their current occupation, and 36.9 percent of respondents expressed Switzerland-style “neutral” feelings toward their work. The survey found that younger workers (18-34) feel more negative about their jobs. Those older than 35 were much more sanguine about work. Men between the ages of 35-44 and women between 55-64 held the most enthusiasm about their current gig. Older men and younger women reported the highest rates of dissatisfaction.[FREE DOWNLOAD: 2016-2017 Internal Communications Survey Results]

Employee engagement and happiness can make or break an organization. Nothing deflates productivity like apathetic workers who hate what they’re doing, so it pays to monitor morale. Sometimes all it takes is a reassignment or a new manager to rejuvenate a previously disengaged employee. Of course, others may just be in the wrong line of work.
