Get ready for DOGstagram: Smart coat lets canines automatically post a picture whenever they wag their tail

  • The Posting Tail is a vest equipped with sensors, camera, and GPS for dog
  • This allows it to differentiate between regular and happy tail wags
  • When a happy wag is detected, it sends signals to camera to take a photo
  • The photos are then uploaded automatically to the dog's social media

Social media is constantly flooded with images and videos of adorable animals; some even have accounts of their own.

And now, thanks to a new device from pet food brand Pedigree, your dog can post on her Facebook page without any help from a human.

The Posting Tail is a smart vest that tracks tail-wags to determine when your dog is happy, and it can snap a photo of the moment and upload it right to social media.

Pedigree teamed up with Saatchi & Saatchi Madrid to develop the vest that can determine what makes your dog happy.

The Posting Tail uses an accelerometer on the tail to detect movement.

Coupled with a Raspberry processor, it can distinguish between regular and happy tail wags.

When the happy wags are detected, the device sends a signal to the camera.

Then, it snaps a photo of whatever has caused the dog so much excitement and automatically uploads this onto the pet’s social media account.

The Posting Tail also has a built-in GPS to help you know where your dog is happiest.

‘Thanks to social media, we know what our close friends like, what our not-so-close friends like, even what strangers like,’ a video on the concept explains.

‘But, what do we know about our best friend?’

Posting Tail aims to help you understand what your dog likes by allowing the pet to share this data itself.

With the cameras, sensor, and GPS, the vest can log the toys, people, and food that makes your dog happy.

‘This way, the dog’s tail turns into a big data generator so we can give him more happy moments,’ the video says.

The video shows the images captured by different dogs, all from a first-person angle taken by the camera on their backs.

This means the photos aren’t selfie-style, but include the back of the dog’s ears, and a view of whatever is in front of them.

In one example, the video shows the Facebook page of a dog named Max Collie. As Max plays with his owner, a photo is captured and immediately uploaded to the site.

Other images include views of the park, the waterfront, and a brief encounter with his ‘girlfriend.’

According to the site, the product is available at Pedigree.es.
