plashing out on expensive headphones, especially if they spend most of the day scrunched up in a pocket or handbag.
But that hasn't stopped Astell&Kern launching a luxurious pair which feature cutting-edge technology for crystal clear sound that will set music-lovers back a staggering £800 ($999 or €990).

Astell&Kern has launched a luxurious pair of headphones (pictured) which feature cutting-edge technology for crystal clear sound, but will set music-lovers back a staggering £800 ($999 and €990).
The AK Ti8e headphones, which look much like any other ordinary pair, launched at IFA in Berlin.
The headphones are the first to feature Beyerdynamic Tesla Technology – named after the pioneer of the alternating current, Nikola Tesla, rather than being a reference to Elon Musk’s car company.

The oval shaped moulds use cables that go over the ears so they don’t pull and the earphones come with both silicone and 'Comply' foam buds to make sure they sit snug in the ears.

WHAT IS TESLA HEADPHONE TECHNOLOGY?
The technology is developed by Beyerdynamic.
It’s named after the pioneer of the alternating current, Nikola Tesla.
The technology uses completely redesigned transducers, distinguished by their very strong magnetic drive and transparent sound.
This means they produce crystal clear sound that’s less muffled with headphone including filters.
Additionally, there’s a toughened kevlar 3.5mm cable and they come with a balanced cable with a 2.5mm jack to work specifically with AK players.
The headphones include a powerful ring magnet that’s 16 times smaller than previous Tesla technology, while the moving coil is ‘so filigree that it is barely visible,' according to Beyerdynamic’s engineering team.
The set-up is designed to produce crystal clear sound and this is achieved because there are no crossover filters inside that distort speech and music recording.
'It [Tesla technology] transmits the entire audible frequency spectrum with a single driver.
'From deep bass to the highest trebles, the AK T8ie sounds like an integrated whole,' Beyerdynamic’s managing director, Wolfgang Luckhardt explained.

The earphones' cable contains Kevlar. A molecular model of the material is shown above. Its structure gives it a high tensile strength-to-weight ratio - five times stronger than steel

They will be built by hand at Beyerdynamic’s factory in Heilbronn, Germany, and will come in a leather case.
The detachable cable has an easy-to-grip chrome alloy covering and is reinforced with Kevlar so it can ‘easily endure 40,000 bending cycles’ - or being scrunched up in a pocket multiple times
There are eight choices of ear buds to ensure the earphones fit comfortably and securely in different ears.
The AK Ti8e headphones will be available globally next month.
